India Bans 59 Chinese Apps Including TikTok, SHAREit, Cam Scanner Etc.

India bans Chinese apps, India on Monday banned as many as 59 Chinese apps, together with popular ones like TikTok, ShareIt and UC Browser amid border tensions with China.The ministry of electronics and information technology said the apps have been banned because they're prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and defence of India.

Here are the explanations cited by the government to impose the ban:

• There have been raging issues on points relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indians.
• The apps have been banned as they pose parts which are hostile to national security and defense of India, which ultimately impinges upon its sovereignty and integrity and is a matter of very deep and instant concern requiring emergency measures.
• Representations have been received from residents regarding the security of data and risk to privacy related to the operation of certain apps together with these received by the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) relating to a breach of privacy impacting public issues.
• The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, ministry of house affairs has additionally despatched exhaustive recommendations for blocking these malicious apps.
• Concerns have been flagged by various public representatives, both inside and outside Parliament, and there was a powerful consensus to take strict action against such apps.
• The ban will ensure the safety and sovereignty of Indian our on-line world and safeguard the interests of crores of mobile and internet customers.

While the orders have been issued today, it may take some time for the app and play stores to act on them. The government order will apply not simply to new downloads but can even cover the already downloaded apps that have been banned. Those who've already downloaded these apps will not be able to use them as they will all be deactivated.
